Memorial Library, Wimbledon, London
King’s College School
Built in 1917 and steeped in history, the Memorial Library is a true gem in King’s College School estate. The new library concept Nikki conceived is sympathetic to the architectural features, seamlessly blending the historical character of the space with the practicalities required for an effective school library. Each piece of furniture was carefully considered and designed bespoke, working with skilled British joiners and cabinet makers to produce an interior aesthetic which balances the history of the space with the new and practical.
The bookcase design is a simple and efficient box-like concept, allowing the librarian to reposition the pieces as areas grow. Muted, upholstered seating complements the original colours used on the stunning barrel-vaulted ceiling which arches over the library. This unusual project was a joy to be a part of and it is so rewarding to see the positive effects the new calming interior has had on the students.
