The Childbase Partnership is an employee-owned business, rated one of the UK’s most extraordinary corporations by Best Companies (2016) and hailed as one of Sunday Times ‘Best Companies to Work For’ for over a decade.
A true collaborative and innovative institution, it consists of 44 nurseries throughout the South of England and is Ofsted-rated as ‘outstanding’. Nikki was commissioned to design and create the concept for their new Cherry Trees Day Nursery in Cranfield, spanning 579,000 sqm. We took our inspiration from Reggio Emilia; an educational concept which believes that all children can best create meaning and make sense of their world through living in complex and varied environments.
Our design crafted a setting which embraces a rich scheme of texture, colour and emotion. We placed a light-filled atrium at the heart of the nursery and brought the outside in using an ombre paint effect with a graduation of greens to blues reaching the sky.
In each playroom we created reading nooks as well as spaces for creativity, make-believe, and play. We hand-selected the best of British design to bring this nursery to life and inspire a home-from-home environment which would be both nurturing and familiar for the children.
